I grew up Catholic, but for most of my life, I was a nominal Christian at best. Still, the big questions—about life, purpose, and God—never left me. A few years ago, everything began to shift. The sudden quiet of COVID, combined with the life-altering moment of becoming a father, cracked something open in me. I began searching, praying, and slowly walking my way back into the Christian faith.
Over the past three years, that journey has deepened. But like many of you reading this, I quickly realized how hard it is to live out Christian values in the modern world. So much of daily life—how we work, spend, parent, and connect—is at odds with the Gospel. That tension led me to Catholic social teaching, especially Rerum Novarum, which opened my eyes to the Church’s rich and beautiful vision for society, economics, and human dignity.
But here’s the problem: while the Church gives us this incredible framework, the practical resources for how to live it out today are often hard to find. So instead of just journaling my way through it privately, I decided to build this blog—Sanctifying Modernity—as a space to explore, question, and share what I’m learning.
Let me be clear: I’m not a theologian or an expert. I’m a fellow pilgrim—still learning, still wrestling, still growing. Everything here should be taken with a large grain of salt. But I believe the best way forward is to share this journey together.
A Christ centered culture may have faded, but that only makes the opportunity to rebuild it more exciting. So let’s rediscover it piece by piece, day by day. Let’s ask better questions. Let’s support each other. Let’s sanctify modern life—not by escaping it, but by living it more faithfully every day.
